At Health and Safety for Beginners (HSfB) we are committed to protecting the privacy of our customers and website visitors. Introduction
HSfB respects each individual's right to personal privacy.  We will collect and use information through our web sites in the ways disclosed in this statement and further explained in our Frequently Asked Questions section on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Part I.  Information Collection
HSfB collects information through our web sites when you register your membership to participate in our interactive areas, including Discussion Forums, article comments, social media sharing tools, newsletter, main website registration, advertiser software and Business Directory.

We collect the following information from registered users of our Discussion Forums:

  • Upon first registration - your username; email address; a non-readable encrypted version of your password; your Internet Protocol (IP) address
  • Optional user added profile information viewable in the public domain - your age by year, not day/month; your social networking sites - Twitter, Facebook, Blog, LinkedIn, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, Google+, YouTube channel; your industry sector; your interests; your occupation; your location
  • Time and date of first registration
  • Time and date of the last time you are active on the forums
  • Any custom avatar / profile image you upload

We collect the following information from registered users of the main website:

  • You may register quickly and easily with many of the social networks you use, including Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn and Twitter. We will receive basic information to do so which will be your profile name, associated profile email address, associated profile picture / image
  • The 'name' you provide in the 'name' field of the registration form
  • Your username
  • Email address
  • A non-readable encrypted version of your password
  • Your Internet Protocol (IP) address
  • Optional user added profile information viewable in the public domain - your city; your country; your website; 'about me' information you give
  • Date of first registration
  • Last visited date

In addition to information from registered main website users detailed above, the use of our Business Directory and Advertising Software may also collect the following:

  • Business name
  • Business address
  • Business telephone number
  • VAT number
  • Business opening hours
  • Social network pages (optional entry): Facebook; Twitter; Google+; LinkedIn; Skype; YouTube; Instagram; Pinterest
  • Business logo
  • We DO NOT collect credit or debit card details for any transaction. All transactions are processed via PayPal

We may collect the following information from you if you enter any of our prize draw competitions:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Internet Protocol (IP) address
  • Telephone number
  • Home address

We collect your email address if you register for any of our newsletter emails. We will never sell, give or trade your email address to any third party without your explicit consent.

HSfB does not actively market to children; however, we always operate within the guidelines and research of various online Government agencies and charity organisations with regards to children.

When entering any prize draw on HSfB, entrants have the right to approve or deny consent to publish their name on HSfB's and / or prize sponsor organisation's websites and any media coverage created by the draw during marketing activities. This will be clearly explained prior to entry to any competitions.

We may be required to provide your name and contact details (phone or email) to an organisation sponsoring a prize in the event you win in order to redeem prizes. This will be clearly explained prior to entry to any competitions where this may be the case.

Health and Safety for Beginners is registered with the Information Commissioner, notification reference number - dac940.

Third Parties

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website, including Google. These cookies enables Google to serve ads to you about goods and services of interest to you based on your visit to HSfB sites and other sites on the Internet. If you would like more information on this practice or if you would like to opt out of the use of Google's cookies, you can do so by contacting Google directly. These services may also collect and use anonymous identifiers such as IP Address, HTTP Referrer, Unique Device Identifier and other non-personally identifiable information and server logs.

The Discussion Forums system uses cookies to store information on your local computer. These cookies do not contain any of the information you have entered at the time of registering; they serve only to improve your user experience. The e-mail address is used only for confirming your registration details and password (and for sending new passwords should you forget your current one), or for sending you vital information regarding your account or any important information regarding accounts or web site changes affecting members.

We do employ cookies as part of affiliate advertising partnerships. These cookies may collect non-personally identifiable information in the form of your IP address for the purpose of tracking sales of third party products and services advertised on HSfB. 

Part II.  Information Usage.
The information collected by HSfB will be used only for confirming your registration details and password (and for sending new passwords should you forget your current one), or for sending you vital information regarding your account or any important information regarding member sections of our websites, including the HSfB Business Directory and Discussion Forums, Privacy Policy changes, or Terms and Conditions changes.  Discussion forum functionality features may use your email address for notification purposes if requested via user control panels. Users who provide information will receive confirmation of registration emails and vital important information regarding accounts or web site changes affecting members. 

The HSfB newsletter software collects your email address to which you voluntarily provide using a 'double opt-in' feature in order to receive our newsletter.   You have the option to remove yourself from this software at any time, which will stop any future correspondence between HSfB and the email address you supply upon subscription.

Registered users of the HSfB Noticeboard Newsletter may receive additional announcements about products, services, special deals, prize draws. These will either be announcements specific to HSfB or where we have negotiated special deals and offers of benefit to you and our site users.

We may disclose your personally identifiable information if we are obliged to under law, to enforce our terms and conditions of use or for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

We will never give, sell or otherwise trade your personally identifiable information to any third parties.

We offer links to other web sites.  Please note: when you click on links to other web sites, we encourage you to read their privacy policies.  Their standards may differ from ours.

Our web sites offer Discussion Forums.  Please be advised that information posted there becomes public knowledge. 

If our policy on information collection or uses changes, we expect most such changes to be minor, but there may be changes that are more significant. Regardless, we will post those changes on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will also provide a more prominent notice.  Each version will be noted at the top of the page.   We will also advise you by site news alerts on the main homepage and in the Discussion Forums announcement section.

You have the right to request access to your personal data and supplementary information.

You have the right to be aware of and verify the lawfulness of how we process your data.

You have the right to request erasure of your personal data, also known as 'the right to be forgotten'.

Your request for a copy and receipt of information is free of charge. There are exceptions, but this is generally based on excessive requirements.

Part V. Data Storage and Security

The GDPR does not define security measures which should be implemented, but it does require a level of security appropriate to the risks faced by how we process your data.

We believe we have robust security measures in place to minimise the risks, including:

  • Updating all software under our control used to operate and manage HSfB immediately and with urgency
  • Up-to-date firewall and anti-virus software for all of our electronic devices used to operate HSfB
  • We use a reputable web hosting company who use state of the art security technology
  • All of our web site software platforms are designed with security in mind and where possible, we will utilise additional security addons, third party security software, various extensions, plugins, tools and techniques based on best practice
  • All password data on the main site user accounts and on the Discussion Forums is fully encrypted with state of the art technology. HSfB cannot access unencrypted data by default
  • every donated download item published is scanned for virii by up-to-date anti-virus software and web host standard security
