In the 50th year of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, we can attribute the Act to an 80% reduction in non-fatal injuries and a decrease in fatalities from 651 in 1974 to 138 in 2023/24. As we celebrate its golden anniversary, there is much to commend. However, we must also acknowledge that there remains significant work to be done.

We stand on the brink of another transformative era, characterised by unprecedented synergy between human and machine intelligence. Our workplaces are evolving rapidly, and concurrently, the working population is ageing and becoming more sedentary, presenting new challenges in workplace health and wellbeing.
