Compliance thoughts

Post by Wivvy »

Would love to hear of some thoughts, ideas and experiences of an H&S compliance challenge we are experiencing at present.

I work for a fire alarm company. Roughly 20 guys out working each day, some working alone. We are constantly reviewing how we can improve our h&s processes and procedures.

The one challenge we constantly face is getting the guys on site to do the simple things, like ensure RAMS are signed, complete a weekly H&S inspection to demonstrate key tasks being discharged, toolbox talk being carried out, signing off with a text at the end of the day if lone working

So 1; does anyone have any thoughts on how we can improve efficiency in respect of the above, and get the guys on site closing out these tasks each week?

And 2; any thoughts on how we can raise the profile of our commitment to h&s to the guys on site, with some form of regular, engaging and interesting h&s update?

Thanks all.

Management could review which need to be done and which are a nicety - is it overly bureaucratic?
What happens to end of shift texts? Presumably they are received by someone. Be proactive, rather than wait pats an expected finish time, call the worker as a welfare check, look at telematics,
Thee will always be some who feel it doesn’t apply to them. communicate, communicate, communicate.

Thanks Andyblue, great comments and appreciate you taking the time to provide your thoughts.

Ref end of shift texts, great point of stipulating a finish time or maybe an agreed end of shift time.

Raising communication levels is noted, we could do with some positive and encouraging communication ideas. We can communicate on processes, procedures and expectations, as well as discipline those as necessary, but some ideas which dont necessarily make us look regimental, but show our commitment to health and safety would be great.

Who receives the texts and what do they do with them? Or are they sent but not checks until the following morning / day? Do they really serve a purpose?
