are there formal courses?

Update: taken a new job :D hopefully confidence and positivity will return with new challenge - scary though leaving current place after 16 years (6 years H&S !) :shock:

Hi TWDB, if they are expected to use a fire extinguisher then yes training is required, irrespective, all employees should have some form of basic fire awareness training as a minimum.
The light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off due to budget cuts..............

Unless you are dealing with specialist situations (i.e. anything where the level of risk from fire is significantly raised and cannot be reduced through other means), I would say that a basic level of training and an understanding of what is expected of them should be adequate.

Obviously if you intend staff to fight the fire and not just raise the alarm, then that training would also be needed.
We often think that when we have completed our study of one we know all about two, because 'two' is 'one and one.' We forget that we still have to make a study of 'and.'
