Auditor / contractor

Hi,

I found in the model answers of the Revision Guide RRC that the selection of the auditors must be done same as it is done to select a contractor. Is this ok? We ask for the same documentation that we ask to the contractors, then?

If you ask for references, wouldn't you find sometimes answers depending on the result of the audit (positive or negative) for the organisation that was audited before?

Thanks in advance. ../.

Hi Esther.

As much as we really do want to help, can I ask if you have someone in RRC you can contact to guide you?

Hey Esther

I love that you are challenging yourself by doing the NEBOSH qualification and looking for support from the HSfB Forums, that's what we are here for after all and we all want people to be safe and healthy at work.

I do get the sense that you and I are similar in that we want to 'understand' the principles and concepts of a good health and safety management system and culture, not just memorise a model answer and a bullet pointed list of what the examiner might want to see. That's not going to allow us to do a good job to offer professional advice.

Not sure what study techniques you are using but personally, I really enjoy learning about a topic by spending quality time researching it from many sources where I can. Finding that quality time is not that easy at times with two Pomeranian dogs jumping about in the background by the way

Anyway, instead of me listing some bullet points for you here, I think I'd rather encourage you to take a bit of time out, maybe 20 minutes or so, and see what you can find out on the web what others look for when selecting an auditor and what to look for when selecting a contractor.

Jack top tip :D - if the results of your search are a bit too wide and varied, add the word 'safety' at the end of your search term ;)

Jack top tip :D - companies selling their auditing services will tell you why they are the best at what they do, i.e. their industry qualifications / accreditations / memberships etc.

Jack top tip :D - in a question like this one, examiners might not be looking for a 'list' of the specifics of things you would ask for or specifically look at, they might be more interested in you demonstrating you understand the process of selecting specialist services over all.

Jack top tip :D - see above top tip...examiners might just ask you to 'list' what you would look for during the selection process! So for me, it's better to understand the process first then drill down a bit further to learn some specifics to give as examples.

I found a really good link on selecting an auditor and instead of me just hoping you might find it on Google, here it is here

Esther, I really hope my approach to these courses is something else we have in common. :D

Your other question...

I would hope that those giving a reference would do so based on their own selection process and if the audit company actually met expectations. A positive or negative result of audit is irrelevant if the auditor is fair, impartial and objective.

A good question, one for a good discussion me thinks, but for this qualification I suspect it is a bit out of scope for the exams.

Hi,
My husband told me about the Nebosh and HSfB Forums.
I checked the link. Thank you very much for the support.
