Liverpool Car Park Fire Findings

Post by Messy » Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:45 pm

As the Grenfell Inquiry lumbers on, is this more evidence that Building regs - especially Approved Doc B - are not fit for purpose?

The presentation available from the link below shows what happened at the fire in Liverpool about a year ago, when an open sided car park caught fire and the fire service could not control the indecent . 1100 cars and the 90m x 90m car park were destroyed

The presentation is about 45 mins long, but it really is so similar to Grenfell in terms of poor regulations. The provision in ADB for car parks is based on scientific assumptions from 1968. The top selling car of that year was the Austin 1100. I had one later and it was basic. My car now is a small 4x4 and is fitted with many more plastics, including lots of noise insulation - so the heat output is significantly higher than an Austin 1100

At Liverpool, last and a hotel were wrapped around the ugly car park and were only saved by hard working fire crews and the presenter says there is a hospital on Merseyside with similar wrap around buildings

Lets hope that this fire and the findings from it are not hidden in the shadow of Grenfell as in some ways, they really should be linked together as a failing of ADB
