Re: Inexperienced graduate
Hi dicksonk. A very warm welcome to you.
Sorry for missing your post. I had some downtime with my computer recently and am only now catching up on posts.
Gaining entry into H&S without experience and regardless of qualifications achieved, such as your own, is always difficult, but not impossible.
The NCRQ as you are aware, is relatively new to potential employers, so in your CV you have to specify NCRQ qualifications to Diploma level, as approved by IOSH! This will gain a second look from the recipient.
We have to allow time to educate employers on how the new NCRQ qualifications of APPLIED H&S includes learning EXPERIENCE. This will happen in time, but in the meantime we have to use the IOSH card as a little shove in the right direction. All, of course, my own opinion.
I will send you a PM later today with some offerings to help hopefully.
Good to have you aboard dicksonk.
You will find your perfect job!

Re: Inexperienced graduate
Thanks soo much for the response Alexis, and sorry for also for the late response,in my case, what would you suggest i do to land a job?
Re: Inexperienced graduate
Be persistant.
Sell yourself and your ideas.
Be confident.
Send emails to as many places as you can with the hope of job shadowing the current health and safety person on site for the day.
I'm now onto my second job in health and safety (One in food manufacturing and my current role is within a cold stores warehouse) and when I look back I've learned so much! DM me and if I can help you I will.

Hello DicksonK,
Being persistent is the key here as well as putting yourself out there to gain the experience. I passed my Nebosh General cert and was in the same boat and it took me 5 years to get a position in H&S. But in those 5 years I involved myself in as much H&S as possible whether it be at work on the health and safety committee, offering to conduct risk assessments, asking to be included in site audits the works etc. It might not of happened straight away and I dare say I only got to do them just to shut me up Ha!
I even managed to get onto a top tier chemical site to shadow the health and safety officer (all be it for a day) by emailing and asking the question and then I got speaking to another H&S officer at a large pipe manufacture plant and went there every Friday for around 8 months.
It all adds up in the end of the day and finally it paid off for me.
Dont give up is the main thing!!!
Good luck
Mark
