Is it worth asking for a remark?

Post by Jane1701 »

I have received my results today and passed with a credit, missing out on a distinction by just 3 marks.

I know this seems really pathetic, but I got a distinction in the general and construction certs, both of which seemed so much harder than the fire cert and I am really disappointed that I missed out by just 3 points :( All my previous results in various subjects have always been high and it just doesnt fit in haha .pale

I know that I can submit an EAR form to NEBOSH, and the remark can either increase, or decrease the original mark, i was just wondering if anyone had done this with any success?

Jane

congrats

On your credit

There are many threads on remarks:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40557&hilit=remark" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=39707&p=301634&hil ... rk#p301634" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=36960&p=286112&hil ... rk#p286112" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As you can see the remarks are pretty much the same and it is a personal position.

You missed out by 3 marks on a Distinction.
So which of the 3 units are you going to request a remark for (or 2 units if you have the carry over grade of the NGC1)?
All or just one?

Why do you need to request it?
Is it worth the cost?
Are you prepared for the marking to go down further?
If it does, what would you do then, appeal?

Why are you doing the qualifications?
If you apply for a job will it matter if you have a Credit or Distinction?
Will an employer not just look on it as a tick box, 'Have they got NEBOSH Y/N?'

It's your choice; you described it as seeming 'really pathetic' and I perhaps I wouldn't go that far, but personally I'd feel a complete Pillock if the mark got lowered, so I'd leave well alone...

I have submitted the EAR.

I am prepared for the mark to go down, my reckoning is that I got a mark of 209, and you need over 180 for a credit so hopefully if it did go down, it wouldn't go down by 29 marks. I have just asked for the FC1 to be remarked as this was my lowest score.

Its quite strange as I used a lot of the examiners reports to prepare for the exam and when I walked out of the exam room I felt confident that I had done well, as there wasn't a question I was unsure of. It seemed a lot easier than the general and construction papers, so I was disappointed that I received a much lower mark.

Its only £50 so I thought its worth a try. If not, I will be happy with my credit. I just think that if I didnt try, I will always wish I had :|
