This morning one man walking along a 4" wide ledge knocking splatter off welds seconds later another walking under a suspended load both are now upset with me for pointing out the error of their ways. One even sugested that I go away and do some 'proper work' and live in the real world.
I just wonder if I am in the right job and thought of posting on our notice board on of these;
Remember
When your luck finally runs out and your accident happens:
It is you will have to suffer the pain;
It is you that will forever carry the scar;
It is you who will have to learn how to live with a disability;
It is your family who will have to survive without you.
I will just do the paperwork.
All you really have to do is listen, learn, and put it into practise
And I will have just done the paperwork
It is every sheep's ambition to die for a mysterious and possibly stupid way.
This trait is also true of some humans.
Rant over for now

Re: Do some people have a death wish?
Terry - I understand your frustration
Next time someone does something stupid, take their photo. Make sure they know you're taking it too (shout "say cheese!" or something like that). The usual response from this is for them to ask you what the heck you're doing. "Just taking your picture" is all you need to say in return, then smile and walk off.
This quite often makes people actually stop and think.
Failing that:
Bon chance

BP - This is why there are people like you and all our other folks who frequent HSfB. There would be many many more deaths if you people didn't plod on even when abuse if thrown at you simply for trying to save lives.
You, like me, remember the pre-HSWA days and know what a difference there is nowadays, but only because of people like you.
Good to rant.

Re: Do some people have a death wish?
I agree with Alexis, it can sometimes be a thankless task and there are people within the H&S profession that give us all a bad name! However in general people find themselves in these H&S roles because they give a damn. It's the same reaosn that most people become nurses, doctors, fireman, policeman etc. They care about the world they live in and have enough about them to try and make a living in a way which will hopefully make a difference to not only their lives but also others that they can influence!
Keep up the good fight! After all the fact that the work we do is important makes it worth fighting for!

So when the whole world is safe..............what are we going to do then?

Re: Do some people have a death wish?
I seem to remember a few years ago that a council was able to put pictures of local idiots who were a constant blight to the police etc, in the market places and centres to shame them. Like a modern day stocks if you will.
A bit extreme but companies could adopt this approach and have a "unsafe numpty of the week" section on notice boards.
Any takers?
