Just a wee update for all you lovely people who care about others.

The weeks and months are going by with no improvement in the main. I would even go as far as saying things are much worse with my lack of breathing and pain, but not in the heart region.

I can hardly walk 10 minutes without becoming faint, cannot breathe and in lots of pain, however............. as my particular type of attack was not one of the usual ones, I have been doing a load of research myself, seeing as how some Doctor's seem to think I am a moaner. I must quickly point out, our local Hospital (St John's) Doctors and Rehab nurses/physiotherapists have been first class, without exception.

According to my research, it seems all the medication I am on is causing me NOT to be on the mend, in fact could even be making me feel worse by the day.

I have found that every kind of heart attack is treated with much the same medication ie: Statins, pills to lower heart rate and ACE Inhibitors all to both help the heart recover and to prevent any future attacks, which is all very well, but...............in a Takotsubo attack, no-one knows what to do about it, so the same medication is given as a precaution.

Now, how can they prescribe all these medicines, without review, when it is widely known that the Takotsubo type heart will heal fully in just a few weeks!! Also, why would someone with a lifetime history of low blood pressure need pills to lower blood pressure!! Thus my investigative senses took over. (I should have asked oor Helen to help. )

I have spoken to a heart surgeon, who was one of theeee most informative and truthful professionals ever, who did agree that one size fits all is the only way they can be as sure as possible regarding any type of heart attack, but that the individual has to be reviewed regularly with their GP, thus Takotsubo patients (and others) could have medications altered or removed if appropriate.

I wish my Doctor thought the same! I am down on the system as "having a sore leg", which was supposed to be why I had an appointment a couple of weeks ago. This was not what I complained of! I had loads of complaints, one of which was why the severe cramps/pain/lack of movement etc in my legs.

Anyway.........I have an appointment at my Surgery (heart and stroke clinic they tell me) tomorrow, armed with all my millions of research and request for a referral, which I have been offered by a Senior Consultant in London who is researching this very syndrome right now, following an e-mail I sent to one of his colleagues after reading a paper he had done earlier this year. The reply even came in one day.

So, tomorrow is D-Day for the removal of some of my medication. I will not leave until this is done!

That's the story so far. Maybe a book on the topic later.

Cor blimey Alexis - that doesn't sound good at all

One size fits all sounds fine for ear defenders, but doesn't really seem appropriate for a heart attack

Sounds like you have done your homework and going in with a "not going to be fobbed off" approach, which seems to be whats needed

Only been looking in occasionally as my life seems to be one big blur at the moment, but had kinda figured that you should be well down the road to recovery by now - so will be looking in tomorrow for an update.

Really hope, you can get this sorted right, and start getting better

Woe betide the peeps that mess with Alexis.

I hope you get what you need, rather than what someone thinks you need, just because it fits with what they do for every other type of heart attack.
