Mentoring List

Post by WillPool »

Not sure if everyone would agree but there seems to be a lot of people out there asking for some mentoring or some coaching to gain experience in the workplace.

I know I have agreed to let a member of the forums come and visit me next month to allow them to see what I get up to and to let them gain experience/set their minds at rest that they are on the right track.

I am up for doing some voluntary mentoring if the person can get to my workplace maybe 1 day per week. this also fits into doing voluntary work for CPD, so a win-win situation.

I am not sure if there will be enough members or employers willing to let this happen but I feel it would benefit lots of people trying to get on the first rung of the H&S Ladder.

Is there somewhere on the HSfB site would could list possible mentors and their locations?

This is something I have a huge interest in Will and thank you so much for actually doing something to help people in this situation. clapclap

I think Jack could offer some sort of HSfB area if only initially to put a sticky post in the forums to find out how many people would or could offer this help. :D

In fact, I will make this post into a sticky one for the time being to see who has the wherewithal to offer any help.

That sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately it's not something I'm in a position to do!

Great idea but my place is the last place on earth a newbie would want to be

we have a 3 day induction just to get on a site, including streetworks

Some may not remember a Moderator on here called Gladiator, when I started studying for my NEBOSH he in a way mentored me. I never visited his work and was not always on the phone to him but effectively “he was there if needed”

When I got my first job interview he coached me through and I got the job and when I started suffering from confidence issues, again he was there.

I have done the same over the years in Safety so what I do saying is don’t rule out being a mentor as mentoring does not have to be coming to someone’s work.

Gladiator is one of our many members who, silently and offline still do this today.

Agree totally Dave, mentors come in all shapes and sizes and places. I salute them all. clapclap

If there any members within the Gulf states of UAE and Oman I would be glad to offer mentorship in the Construction and Geomatics sectors

I would love to do some mentoring, but my employers simply would not entertain it :(

Just revisiting this. I have recently changed employers (hopefully for the last time in a long while!). When I get settled here I'll run it past my employer who I am optimistic will be willing for someone to do some shadowing.
So when the whole world is safe..............what are we going to do then?

Just wondering if any of our members are signed up to the IOSH Mentoring scheme (as mentors) as I have now signed up for IPD and am looking for mentoring support.
