An HSFB Charity Event?

Post by Keith1983 »

If there was enough interest could we come up with ideas fior a fundraiser and then make an HSFB donation to a charity? Maybe we could sign up and then all those signed up could suggest a charity and one get drawn out of a hat? I would suggest a bike ride of a good length or a run but am very much open to suggestions? Maybe a car wash? (in an area that hasn't got a hosepipe ban ofcourse!) I think it would be a nice thing to do as a group and would be a good way to meet other members.

Edited to add Facebook communication group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/436397363052114/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So when the whole world is safe..............what are we going to do then?

I'd be up for it, good idea Keith.

It would be good to use the forums and social media to coordinate / sync an event.

Spark ignited, what next?

I guess i can only seem the difficulties of what you suggest Like that members are spread all over the UK (and world) so how would you get members together in one place and something they would all want to do (bike ride, car wash) as well as agree a charity.

Possible you could look at doing something at the H&S expo as that is the only time you are likely ever to get members in a significant numbers at one time and even then I'm not sure if we have ever achieved more than 10.

i think possible you are better of raising money on your own in your own way I'm not trying to put a dampener on this just being realistic we have certainly had a few members raise money for charities on here through gift aid I'm sure there are a couple of members currently looking for sponsorship.

I would look to your company and work colleagues if you want to raise money for charities as it is more likely to be an achievable target.

P.S i will give £10 if you come and wash my car

I tried a while back to get members together for a H&S meet where we could get people to give lectures on their field of expertise although everyone seem keen the logistics is a nightmare.

But best of luck if you do get something off the ground and as stated above £10 if you want to wash my car. I assume that includes hoovering it as well

I'm not really thinking of the 'how' at this stage Red. For me, it's 'why' that really counts. Human beings are amazing and it's amazing what can be achieved against all the odds.

There are many tools at our disposal to help coordinate this like I've said. It didn't cross my mind to get everybody together for a charity event, far from it. I'd suggest organising it virtually, picking a date/time and participants could do their own thing at that time.

Sheesh, it wasn't that long ago the world switched its lights off and we didn't all meet up to do that!

I'm not suggesting it's as big as that event, but it's much better to go for it rather than shoot it down before it even gets off the ground.

THINK BIG!

By the way, there could be multiple groups around the country if participants were local to each other. ;)

As i said happy for anyone wanting to wash my car lol. i have suggested the H&S expo as this is where members naturally come together at least once a year maybe to late for this year but what about next year. Not shooting down by suggesting the expo which i think is something that could be achieved.

Right then,
I planted this idea and then this is the first time I've come back to it! I'll be happy to coordinate something in Yorkshire, maybe a hike/walk or a cycle ride of adequate distance to attract sponsorship. We could ofcourse latch on to other walks or something. I know the British Heart foundation do, so we could pay our entry but get people to sponsor us for a different cause?
We could ofcourse try some sort of relay to join the furthest north of our members to the furthest south with people covering the same leg deciding how they did it?
So when the whole world is safe..............what are we going to do then?

Slightly off topic, and please excuse if this is already possible.

Is there any way to search for other members in your area? I think it would be great to meet up with other members, at expo's and things.

Cheers

There may be ways to do it with additional software, but we don't have that ability. It opens up all sorts of privacy considerations.
