my name is Brank I'm new here I recently completed the NGC course and I'm still awaiting certification is there anything I could do in the meantime to make my self more employable and what kind of jobs can I apply for if the results are successful as someone new to this career.

Hi there Brank and welcome aboard.

I would suggest you perhaps start by looking at "safety" skills you already have and gear your CV towards these. It will surprise you just how much safety you have had to do in your current/past workplaces.

Applying for job roles won't be easy, as each advert asks for experience, however, there are H&S Administrator positions out there which is a good starting point to enter the H&S Sector.

Looking at joining a Consultancy is also an area where administration roles can lead to hands-on H&S training positions.

Perhaps look at what area of H&S you would most like to enter, i.e. Construction, Environment, Fire etc. etc. and look at the next study step to specialise in a specific one. By doing this, you won't have to go through each NEBOSH NGC Section that you have already completed. For instance, if you decided Construction was your goal, then the study would be applicable to that specific area without having to do the Management paper again. This would give you more qualifications to add to your CV. With the NGC alone, it is really difficult, but not impossible, to find a job in H&S.

I would also suggest you join LinkedIn (and other job sites, especially on Social Media Platforms like FB H&S Job Groups, Twitter etc.) Put your new CV in there and let it be known that you are seeking a H&S role.

Joining your local safety group would allow you to network. There may be someone in your local group who could either offer, or point you in the right direction of doing a little bit of voluntary shadowing. https://www.safetygroupsuk.org.uk/local-groups/

If you are in employment, talk to your H&S Officer who may be able to show you how NEBOSH actually works in a real situation. All of which provides experience and knowledge.

Yep, absolutely decide what you already know / enjoy and start there.

This could be retail, construction, oil, transport, nuclear, anything!

Once you know then it's a case of applying for anything that fits to get the experience, even if that means relatively low pay to start. A couple of years in the industry and you can jump ship and command a much healthier salary.

But yes, if you want to do construction or fire, then you have five years (I think) from getting the NGC where you won't have to repeat NGC1 as part of the construction / fire courses, so well worth bearing that in mind.
