So really obvious question here but i want to sense check my thoughts. i am looking at an accident that happened with an angle grinder where the disc exploded. It was a 230x1.9mm discs in a medium sized angle grinder. On looking at the grinder i see that it says 6500/min RPM on the plate and the disc used says max 6650 rpm. What are your thoughts on the disc choice?
That looks like a thin but quite large diameter disc. Presumably for metal cutting. On the face of it, the disc seems suited to the grinder, not sure how much rpm excess beyond the grinder’s speed would be needed.
I’m sure you have, I might explore what it was used for and how it was being used as much as the compatibility
The speed ratings are Ok for the disc to be used on the grinder. The machine speed needs be equal or lower than the disc rating.
As mentioned above - the 1.9mm disc will be a cutting disc and may have been used with a side load during grinding, or the workpiece may have moved and the disc has snagged.
The choice of disc is good for cutting. The actual use of the disc is unknown.
Thanks guys, I've looked at it and root cause is no RAM's. If there had have been in my view the tool choice would have been different and not an angle grinder therefor the load on the disc not causing the breakage.
