Just visited a place that has no electronic fire alarm in terms of an alarm panel, detectors and call points, but it does have 3 smoke detectors that are linked together, so if one sounds they all sound.
It was unclear if the systems were purely battery operated or if they were powered from the mains. So not sure if its a class D or a class F system.
BS-5839-6 seems to suggest weekly testing but no 6 monthly service required.
Would monthly not be ok?
I have the lovely situation of a previous advisor telling a customer one thing, and then me telling them something different a year later after the other guy has left. They are pretty decent about things but minimum required standards seem to be the order of the day.

Re: Frequency of testing and inspection part deux
From your own description, you've identified it to be either a D1/D2 or an F1/F2 system, so why do you say
BS5839-6:2019 says
Grade A should be tested weekly; all others at least every month.
As for maintenance, if Grades C, D1/2 or F1/2 are in a sheltered housing situation, then it's every 12 months, otherwise not applicable.
See Table 3 of BS5839-6:2019.
Even if 12 monthly is to be carried out, it's only by a competent person and it's pretty basic.

The standard says:
Grade B and Grade C systems should be serviced every six months in
accordance with the supplier’s instructions.
Smoke alarms in Grade D, Grade E and Grade F systems should be cleaned
periodically in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Does it really..... Well no it doesn't actually. There was/is a reason I quoted BS5839-6:2019stephen1974 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 1:42 pm The standard says:

Note the 2019 bit! It was updated last April.
For example, No such thing as a Grade B or a Grade E in the latest version.
Also why I quoted D1/D2 or an F1/F2 and not just D or F as you had done, because they are both now split.
