I observed something yesterday and I wanted to get some feedback on this. I was not able to find any information from the HSE on this topic (maybe I was using the wrong search terms).
We are loading a pallet truck from ground level to a mezzanine and vice versa. Our operator was lifting it by placing the forks underneath the pump truck. Is this an acceptable practice?
Now this works because we don't have a loading bay gate at the moment, but as soon as this is in place, this practice won't work any more. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Re: Safely lifting a pump truck with a forklift
The most obvious answer is to buy another pump truck and keep it on the mezzanine. About £200 to get of a problem is not a very high price.
If you must move it around on a forklift, you need to make sure it stays put on the forks so tie it on to the fork carraige. You need to think about whether this would result in an operator working at an edge in order to untie it, in which case you need to think about edge protection (maybe the fork carraige is enough to prevent the operator falling off the mezzanine).

If it isn't broken, that doesn't mean you can't improve it. (Do three negatives make a positive ?)
