May well be just me as it has been a bit since i've been on but what has happened to the "new posts" button that allowed you to view new posts since your last visit ?

You can tell on my browser (Chrome) all the unread posts as the legend beside them are coloured red

Will's Chrome comment is the one I too use, however, Jack changed the layout of the forums when Will was overseas a wee while ago and this was one area that was updated.
To access as you would have in the past follow the next sentence.........
.........Go to the top left of this page, UNDER THE LOGO and you will see a little menu with Quick links, FAQ, Rules, Donate buttons. Click on the Quick links and you will see the New Posts button.
