No answers yet, probably because a bit more detail is required.

There's a whole world of difference between a couple of strands along a farmer's Stock Fence to keep the cattle in check, and installing coils atop a 8ft perimeter fence to a site for additional security.

I'm assuming the latter, given your profile says Construction, but you get a better quality answer if people have a better reference point. .salut

Thanks for the heads up!

The barbed wire is to be placed on the top of 2.4m hoarding panel posts; just two line's of it.

I am very comfortable with work at height; I've just never used barbed in the sense of handing it and erecting it on to posts.

Thanks

I'd say for that job, it very much depends on the size of roll you're dealing with and how straight a line you're wanting.
Barbed wire for civilian use generally comes in much smaller rolls than military quantities, even if you are putting quite a bit up.
It's fairly heavy, so the rolls are fairly small size wise. If you haven't already sorted out a supplier or got any idea of what you're dealing with, just do a quick ebay search and you'll soon get to see what's what.

It's really just a case of good quality gauntlets or gloves (thick leather/hide usually), possibly with reinforced palms.
Then it depends on how it's being fixed, whether with metal brackets or simply stapled to the wooden posts with hammer in galvanised staples.

So your MS is simply going to cover:
The access. A ladder or stepladder presumably. Consider a harness and safety strap to the ladder while using both hands to install.
The Fixing method.
The PPE. Gloves, and if the person is working at face height to do it, some eye protection.

The rest of it depends on the local circumstances, such as ground conditions.
