Huge fire at Grenfell Tower block

Post by hammer1 »

Shocking scenes...........

The fire spread looks like it was external vertical, plus can imagine the wind not helping.

Thoughts are with all the families

This is going to be all over the news for most of the day.
I imagine the loss of life will be high as reports this morning seem to point to a number of issues from witness statements.

Thoughts with all those affected and can we please think about what we write on this topic. remember, we are a public forum that anyone can read.

Thank you. .salut

That said, the moderators appreciate that this topic is going to be of great professional interest to forum members.
With that in mind, here is a link to a blog that has already been discussed in the media this morning.
It is from the local residents group; prophetic indeed.

Thank you Berni for pointing out that we have to be careful what we speculate on at the moment. .salut .salut

Of course, we can send our very deepest of sympathies within this thread to everyone who was, are and will be affected by this horrendous tragedy.

A huge word of praise must go out to the Firefighters and emergency services for their speedy and professional response. .salut

Absolutely horrific, and similarly horrific if it turns out to have been caused by issues that are already well-known from previous large-scale fires.

Doing my best not to speculate until we know more.

Just heard people are still alive and coming out of the building after staying in room with wet towels at bottom of door as advised by firefighters via mobile 'phones.

Having read some of the blog posts that Berni has included the link to, it is even more shocking and sickening that this has occurred. It certainly seems as if the warning signs had been there for all to see. Clearly too early to speculate but reading the blogs from the Grenfel Action Group it certainly indicates there are likely to be some serious questions raised about the procedures in place. Scary and horrifying reading when you see the news unfolding today. Thoughts and wishes are with all of those involved directly/indirectly with this incident.

My heart goes out to those that have lost loverd ones.

There are some serious questions that will need to be answered in the aftermath of this tragedy. Eye witnesses are saying it was caused by a faulty refrigerator. This is a block that was refurbished last year. The block also has a 'stay in flat' policy if there is a fire thatnis not within your flat.

It would appear that there is a direct link to this incident and poor design and fire safety carried out during the refurbishment.

If thisnis the case. Said people should be in court.

Just seen an image on Twitter that appears to show Police Officers with riot shields using their shields to protect firefighters from falling cladding and other debris as they approach the building.

This is an outrage. Only one staircase for escape and it was on fire. This is quite shocking.

Someone has to answer for this because someone IS to blame.

"Firefighters speaking off the record here… …are scathing about cuts, past and planned, to the service."

Taken from the BBC live feed.

Whether the cuts can be considered partially responsible or not, I think it's probably fair to say that they haven't helped.

Cuts may not have had any direct affect on this incident, but cover across London right now is going to be very thin and no doubt made up from other neighbouring county FRS resources.
There were/are some 40 vehicles and 200 firefighters in attendance.
