This is very sad indeed. The young man was a foreign worker and perhaps wasn't quite made aware of the seriousness of the cable nor what to do if this horrible situation arose. So sad, so very sad.

totally agree that's the ideal, but often there are other problems; if only that the individual is pooing their pants at being in the vehicle. requires a 'dynamic risk assessment' at the time. ;)

If it were a car for example, I'd say you have no choice but to stay put, simply because of the impracticality of jumping clear. From a big truck, it's a bit easier.
