hand & finger injuries

Post by launchit0 »

Hi all, im trying to get some new content together for a presentation i have to do for hand and finger injuries. i have a video that runs for about 6-7 mins and i wanted a few slides to kick off with. i was thinking maybe an introduction starting with the number of hand and finger injuries for the year 2012 but finding statistics is a nightmare. I was also maybe thinking of doing a short story, like a personal theme of an individual who suffered a hand injury and the effects and implications it had on his /her life......finding information is a nightmare, can anyone help me with this please.....i would be forever grateful !

../. :D

thanks in advance

Hi

There is info on fines for hand injuries on HSE Website:

http://www.hse.gov.uk/search/search-res ... gsc.page=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There is also a good video about a hand injury on an oil rig, it covers the injured party, how his colleagues and family felt, the healing process and how it has affected his life due to losing parts of his fingers. The video is well put together with some graphic scenes and is called 'Consequences - Martins Story' and was made by Step change in safety although I am not sure if it is still readily available.

Hope this helps a little

PPE providers are often great at giving presentations or have free presentations to give out on hand injuries, so perhaps try your local provider.

Reason: Sorry Beds. Had to remove the file to adhere to our ICRA status. I am sure our members can contact you if they would like to see it. Many thanks for the other ones Bedds. Always appreciated.

Bedds thanks again pal, i love high impact pics, although i don’t think my audience shares my fascination with the gruesome.....as far as I’m concerned if showing them the after effects of a hand injury makes them think about hand placement then it’s all good .pirate

i have sent you my email but it bounced back to me?? ill try again now.....sorry for the delay in replying i am on nights (offshore)

thanks again Bedds

Hi launch it - be aware that the gruesome pics may be a negative effect as people might miss the main message you are trying to portray

I was carrying out an investigation where a guy had severed his thumb and forefinger and the consensus amazed me.
They were mortified the guy could no longer be useful on his play station! And that is the type of comment that will hit home.

Also aware of a first aid incident when someone fainted and cracked their head while gory pics were being displayed.. First recordable incident the company had had in over 4 years!

Leave them out is my advice.
If you think safety is a pain, try a leg fracture.

If your interested I have a little story of my own which involves a duplex sprocket, 1/2" Drive Chain, Compost screening plant and my right hand index finger being pretty much severed off. 15 years later it still gives me grief and I really wish that my knowledge of health and safety principles had been with me all those years ago. I even have the photo pack that odstock micro surgery hospital took on my arrival at their unit. Quite gruesome really.

I know have a permanently fixed index finger in the pincer position to allow me to grip things with only the very tip having proper sensation.
MY finger as it now , 15 years after my accident.
