COSHH signs

Post by efc »

I'm relatively new to H&S and new to the company I work for so sorry if this is a daft question!

We have COSHH lockers which don't have any lables/signs on the outside of them. I'd like some stickers/labels to put on the outside and I've viewed the signs available but none of them seem to be a generic COSHH sign - either flammable/irritant/danger etc. Is there a generally accepted sign for COSHH lockers? If so, please let me know where I can find it, what's it of, what colour etc? Or will any of the ones I've already found do - in which case which one, or does it really matter?

Please, please help!

Thanks

There is no CoSHH sign, unless you make your own up.

It's safe once it's locked away.
So apart from the flammable diamond shaped sign, there is nothing available at the moment.

Have a look at the new GHS logos

No entry, an empty diamond, or the old orange square might do the job.

Bear in mind that the current orange and black CHIP labels are being replaced by GHS symbols now so if you do add labels make sure you get the up to date ones.

The information is well hidden away, http://www.hse.gov.uk/ghs/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But the deadline for GHS labelling is being phased in over 5-years:
December 2010 for suppliers of raw ingredients or chemical mixtures.
With CHIP-4 being repealed on 1st June 2015 for end user products such as paints, thinners, bleach etc.

Some good info about dual labelling systems can be found on the air products website.
http://www.airproducts.co.uk/ghs/faq.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So the old orange labels will need to be around for a while yet.

Nice file Grim, but without the HSE's permission, we can't distribute it on the forums. Is your other presentation yours or is it the HSE's?

If it's yours I'd happily add it to the downloads section with a link back to you.

Oops sorry, the other one is a 36 page powerpoint presentation from the United Nations, I imagine you would have the same issue with that one?

Ive added a few links in below which might be useful:
