Nebosh or IOSH

Post by Jim Lamb »

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone can lend some advice on whether it's best to sit Nebosh or IOSH environmental certificates?

Regards

IOSH Environmental Certificate? .scratch

The only IOSH Environmental training I know of is the newly announced 'Environment for Business' which is a 1 Day course.

NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management is a properly accredited course with some 70 hours of study time.

So what do you think....

Hi Berni

Yeah, agreed that Nebosh is the course of choice.

IOSH run a "Managing Environmental Responsibilities" course. It's not as advanced, but my question really was, is it sufficient.

Here's a link to a course provider:

Actually, they don't.
The list of IOSH courses (actually written by them) is here: https://www.iosh.co.uk/Training/IOSH-tr ... urses.aspx

Basically:
Leading Safely
Managing Safely
Managing Safely Refresher
Environment for Business
Fire Safety for Managers
Fire Safety Awareness
Working Safely

But what IOSH will do is give their accreditation to any H&S related course a provider dreams up; if it meets the IOSH criteria for having the 'IOSH Approved' stamp.

So there are lots of providers out there offering 'IOSH courses' which are not written by IOSH, they are just accredited by them... Therefore they are far less widely recognised in the workplace. I suspect this is what you are dealing with here.
Alternatively, it might be an old IOSH course, which they have stopped supporting, yet they have allowed existing Providers to take it on as though it were their course which they had gained IOSH approval for.

Hi Berni

Thanks very much for that insight... Very helpful.

I will be looking at the Nebosh Certificate going forward.

That's the reason I posted... To hear from more experienced people.

I've recently completed Nebosh General and NVQ, and now considering what next.

Thanks again

Jim
