right guys i am doing a bit of practice quesionnig for my dip and am stuck on the question below which has been re worded for copyright puropses.

If a company was to install a new process and as part of that process there was aqueos effluent, what legal requirments would apply if it contained traces of Mercury???

Dan not got that far in yet but i would imagine from other experiance.

Discharge consent would need to be obtained. this should list whats being discharged.

Q is there a level of mercury you can discharge ??
Q where is is being discharged too ?

are there any regulations regarding mercury which would apply?
So when the whole world is safe..............what are we going to do then?

Down to the discharge consent from the Sewage undertaker and the specification within the consent application of the quantity and concentration of mercury in the effluent (Water Indutry Act 1991). This is for discharge to the public sewer, if your process discharges effluent to a watercourse then it would fall under the Environmental Permitting Regs.
