Post by TWDB »

Happy Christmas all

I'm putting together a short quiz/ workshop for our staff in the new year. and after some good examples of Near misses (videos/ photos, descriptions) to set up a discussion with between our staff
has anyone done similar or have any good examples etc I could use for this.

ideally construction based all sectors is fine

thanks

Seeing as I still don't agree with most people over the definition of a near miss, good luck!
We often think that when we have completed our study of one we know all about two, because 'two' is 'one and one.' We forget that we still have to make a study of 'and.'

The problem with defining a near miss is the English Language.
For example, traditional Missiles are intended to be Hitiles. They need to hit their target to have an effect. ;)

However, for our purposes, let's stick to the HSE definition:

  • near miss: an event not causing harm, but has the potential to cause injury or ill health (in this guidance, the term near miss will include dangerous occurrences)
  • undesired circumstance: a set of conditions or circumstances that have the potential to cause injury or ill health, eg untrained nurses handling heavy patients

Great idea, I might worry less about the internal NM definitions and be more excited at putting over the message and creating the debate on how to not only get the job done but get the job done safely

Am trying to know what a nearmiss is, for instance a truck loaded with full mini containers had a tilted with lashed containers almost falling off trailer while steering on a roundabout can it be said to be a nearmiss

Hi Kevinator
See my post above.
