Safety Conversation Booklets
Hey all,
I've been asked to get some safety conversation booklets made for the operatives in the warehouse to record incidents not considered a Near Miss or Accident, they need to be pocket sized so they are able to keep them on them while on the shop floor.
I was wondering if anyone has this implemented in their workplace, if it actually works and where might be the best place to get them made.

Hi Benstacey,
Welcome to the forum
What sort of 'incident' do you mean if not an accident or near miss?
Do you mean a risk observation?
Trying to understand the purpose of this booklet.
I cant help with making them unfortunately.
Hopefully someone else will come in with some help
Glen

Re: Safety Conversation Booklets
Hey Glen,
So yeah, anything to do with Performance, Technical Issues, Safety Concern or Unsafe Behavior.
Things that aren't a immediate concern but we should know about and look into.
We're having some issues with people not reporting incidents like these because they don't have the capacity to do it there an then, so either they completely forget about it or don't consider it a big enough issue to record as a Near Miss or Incident.
Is there another way we could do it that we're not considering?
Thanks
Ben

Re: Safety Conversation Booklets
Hi Ben and Welcome aboard.
I too was wondering the same thing as Glen initially and I am wondering if giving all the operatives note books would only cause a bit of petty reporting as they may just be classed as a joke by the workforce.
Instead of giving everyone a notepad and pen, why not take a couple of hours on a daily basis, (for say a month), to be on the shop floor observing and talking to the operatives about ways in which they think things could be improved and show them the changes you have made because of their input after this initial period.
However..........to keep the memento going, set up a safety committee (or call it something suitable that the workforce would invest in) and allow them a monthly meeting to bring to the table any ongoing problems they see. Of course, this would have to include someone in management (yoursef?) to be successful and would have to include results.
Also, to make the committee fair in the workforces' eyes, perhaps think about changing the people within the committee every three months or so.
Just a few thoughts as personally, notebooks and pens, in my own view, may just be a big joke. Sorry.
Good luck. It would be interesting to hear how you get on.

2 ideas,
Safety conversation booklets for your management team to use and "get out of the office" and speak to the shop floor about safety. Make it part of the managers KPI's.
Also, set up a "request for action" system where people can fill a form at a central area and drop it in a box. You go around daily and collect these and see what is reported. It could be Near miss, improvement suggestions, property damage/maintenance etc..
I have copies of both if you want to pm me.

Re: Safety Conversation Booklets
Hi Guys,
Just bringing this one back because I was wondering if these ever made it into the download section, and is so where?
I'm looking at better reporting methods and target reporting, maybe even giving a small prize for the best spot of the month.
Cheers
Siblo
