Fire collar fitting

Post by Paul1979 »

Hi All,

We have had a new building handed over to us with fire stopping works completed.

A few concerns, but the image I have attached shows a fire collar fitted at an angle in the wall... is this correct?!

All other collars have been fitted vertically or horizontally, but this one (to my untrained eye) looks like it has just been whacked in at a jaunty angle!?

I have only ever seen them on the horizonal or vertical too. I cannot see that there is much of an issue as long as the mastic used to seal the area is intumescent. I am sure the fire experts will be able to provide more specialist guidance

Are you saying the grey or brown part is the collar?

If I am seeing this right, the fire separation (if there is a collar here) is horizontal though the wall and not vertical through the ceiling - is that right?

Unfortunately I am unable to identify if this is a collar, but the making good on the wall around the fittings certainly suggests proper fire stopping.

What is the remainder of the building like in terms of fire stopping and compartmentation. If its in good condition, you may just have to use professional judgement (i.e. guess!!) unless the risk is high enough to justify an invasive investigation

Hi Messy.

Yes, you are correct - the collar is kind of fitted at an angle with the grey UPVC pipe and the attempts at fire stopping the wall...

The collar is the red part - it is the part with the white label underneath reading 'C14'.
