This is a general question - it is one of them 'why' questions....
'Why' does ADB Vol 2 B1 (in new buildings) and BB100 in schools state that corridors connecting two exits from storey levels longer than 12m should be sub-divided roughly at the mid-way point, but HM/CLG guidance for fire safety in Educational Premises reads 30m?
Am I missing something obvious here?? Seems to be a big variation in the guidance but cant get my head around where these figures come from and the thinking behind them.
If the stairs at either end of the corridor are protected with 2 door lobby style approach, does this then negate the need for a sub-divided corridor.
Any help always appreciated.
