Flash point of dust?
In one of our processes we grind LDPE granules into powder. during this a fair amount of dust is created. Whilst I can get all the information on the properties of the granules in the condition we buy them in, how would I establish the flash point of the dust so I can do a thorough fire and DSEAR risk assessment?
So when the whole world is safe..............what are we going to do then?

Re: Flash point of dust?
I think the problem is that the MSDS give a Flashpoint of the granules as they provide them.
The dust explosion risk is variable dependant on the granule size of the dust, and the amount of it in the air/dust mixture.
It's not the 'Flashpoint' you're seeking; it's the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) and the Upper Explosive Limit(UEL), of the size of dust you're creating. For example the MSDS that messy has found doesn't give LEL/UEL because the granules don't have one.
I think it needs a Laboratory to assess the size of dust you're creating and to establish the LEL/UELs that exist.

You're exactly right, in regards to the LEL / UEL berni! I think I was at the point of not being able to see the forest for the trees, with this one!
