Hi all,
We had a fire evacuation test this week and three directors did not evacuate and just sat in the board room until the all clear was given. Now I know they should be setting the example from a H&S perspective etc, so I am tying to find some fines/prosecutions etc which I can add to my email when I send it out to them.
Anyone have or point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Re: Fire Evacuation Test
OH Dear!
Have you thought about changing jobs?
If you don't have buy in from the directors, the employees would question why bother doing the drills??
Did the directors know it was a drill? I wouldn't tell them next time if they did and see what reaction you get. (I'd just let the MD know)
As far as fines go have a look on the HSE website - I'm sure there'll be a few on there (not to mention the possibility of corporate manslaughter charges and the chances of a custodial sentence. I believe they may wake up when they see that is a possibility.
It's very worrying that the directors did not follow the procedure to evacuate!!
Drill or for real - It's always good to practice for the eventuality of it really happening.
Good luck

Hello,
Out of interest is it just the fire evacuation where they have not participated or do they have a lack interest in Health and Safety throughout the business?
Like Safety Smurf has said hopefully once they are made aware of the possible fines/sentences that could arise it may spark their interest and compliance towards things.
Good Luck
Mark

Re: Fire Evacuation Test
I've had the same situation at my previous company.
FD refused to leave as he was on an important phone call and other directors refused to leave as they had visitors. I'm sure the visitors were less than impressed!
The biggest issue for me was the impact on the shopfloor of directors not leading H&S and you then get guy not complying as they say 'well the MD or FD didn't comply so why should I?'
It makes our jobs that much harder!
Just wondering if a F2F would be better (you know your people of course) and explaining the effect it has through the company?
Good Luck whatever you do!
