Road to recovery begins...
Finally got a consultant appointment via a cancellation.... otherwise I'd still be wating towards the end of April.
Only a 5 month wait.... God bless the Scottish NHS (which advertises appointment, diagnostic tests and treatment within 18 weeks...)
Hopefully the recovery starts here and I have a functioning knee again by Xmas.... although the cynic in me is not holding my breath!

Glad you finally got the appointment. What a wait you've had. Hope the treatment and recovery come sooner than xmas.

Re: Road to recovery begins...
MRI results back yesterday - ACL graft appears to be intact but some cartilage torn.
Booked in for surgery - only 12 weeks to wait now so 20th July at the latest which would be 44 weeks after the initial injury....
I'm reckoning that I'll get the surgery out the way and part of my convalescence will be a very long and angry letter of complaint to the Chief Exec of NHS Lothian with copies to some of the local press.... Misdiagnosis at initial consult, delay in GP referral, 5 month wait for specialist appointment, 4 week wait for MRI followed by 2.5 weeks for results.... Should be at least 2 sides of A4...

I'd send my letter of complaint now and you might find that the 12 weeks wait may well become less

So sorry you have to go for another operation A. All this waiting time is a nightmare!
Take care.

Knocks a month off my expected date so pretty happy with that - about the only time I have been in this process though!!

Re: Road to recovery begins...
Seems to me that all the 'Devolved' aspects of NHS care just seem to create more unacceptable side effects. The Press is always on about different waiting times and response rates, the Welsh NHS fairing even worse than the Scottish.
Across England we have our fair share of problems with some terrible Ambulance trusts, like my own East Midlands and the neighbouring East of England, then there's the really poor Hospital trusts, like Mid Staffs, yet others seem to be shining examples of how to do it properly!
I think the problem is that the NHS is so broken up.
I mean, as another big budget area, the MOD has it's spending problems, usually by long term projects going over budget, but it doesn't get as bad as individual Army Regiments, RAF Bases, or RN Ships being terribly managed.
National Politicians must take some blame since they set different targets etc for the different Scots/Welsh Aspects, but the other more local differences must fall to lack of oversight of individual Trusts by government regulators.
Because their regulator is 'Reactive' instead of proactive, just as the HSE is becoming, so we will probably see workplace safety go down the same dysfunctional route.
Sorry to kind of hijack your personal medical update - I hope they stick to the timeline and don't cause any further delays .
