Re: Three score years and ten!
Frankie, your heart/lung surgeon should be able to tell you something at your appointment tomorrow.
It's time your GP moved on this surely. As you know, I had to give mine a kick, so maybe you should use that wonderful authoritative voice of yours into more ears.
Hopefully you will get things moving by the end of the week Frankie and also have some good news from the Echo.

Go give them a push Frankie, as Alexis says your GP does need a good kick. Hope the results are good.

Re: Three score years and ten!
Further news.
I saw my GP who has now seen my Echocardiogram results. It's not particularly good news - it would appear that the muscle in the left hand side of my heart is only functioning at 45% capacity. There is no surgical treatment for this but it can be helped with drugs such as Warfarin, which helps to thin the blood such that the heart does not have to work so hard.
I now have an appointment to see a Cardiologist in August who should be able to recommend suitable treatment.
We are getting there slowly!

Re: Three score years and ten!
Hi Frankie.
Knowing where the error is and having the Cardiologists appointment for suggestions is a good move forward. Really pleased things are progressing in the right direction now.
We have a couple of people in our weekly Cardio Rehab Group with very similar percentage as yourself Frankie and after 7 weeks watching them on Warfarin etc, they are progressing really well.
I know your lovely Mrs C will be taking great care of you, but you make sure when she is not around that you are taking care of yourself too.

Re: Three score years and ten!
An update on my health:
I have spent the time since August with several hospital visits.
Last Wednesday I spent 6 hours with the Heart Failure Team at the hospital! This is a specialist team which consists of dedicated nurses who look after heart failure patients only.
I was most impressed. I was weighed, had my blood pressure taken and a ECG taken. This was followed by a two hour long consultation with the sister in charge.
She gave me more information about my condition than any of the three consultants that I have seen. She gave me advice on living a healthy lifestyle, diet etc as well as telling me what had caused my sudden heart deterioration (the bout of Pneumonia I had). She also gave me advice on how to manage it and I have now got an appointment to attend one of her outreach clinics closer to home next month. This will be a regular event apparently.
There is, of course, no cure (I knew this) but managed properly my quality of life should improve.
She is concerned that there is still some fluid on my lungs and will discuss this with the Cardiologist. I am to have a 24 hour tape fitted to my chest today which is a device that will measure any sudden panic attacks/fast breathing issues over a 24 hour period, including when I am asleep.
She has increased the dosage of two of my other tablets and this will be reviewed when I attend the outreach clinic.
So, all in all I am happy with the outcome so far and life has returned to some form of normality.
My only other issue is this constant weight loss - I have lost 4 stone since February, am not eating properly and have no appetite. This is to be discussed when I attend the outreach clinic next month. My GP thought it was related to the heart condition and would return to normal eventually. I am not so sure but I do know that Cancer has been ruled out.
Last Thursday I returned to the hospital for another Echocardiogram to check my heart condition which I suppose will be followed up by yet another visit to the Cardiologist.
For the last few days I have felt a lot better and certainly slept better, although doubling the water tablet up to two per day takes up a lot of bathroom time, day and night! I am still suffering from breathlessness after any exertion but I am hoping for an improvement here after the Warfarin dosage is stabilised by my GP (I started two weeks ago and have to have a blood test every three days and the tablet dosage monitored). We will see.

Re: Three score years and ten!
Frankie, this all sounds very positive and the fact that cancer has been ruled out must surely be a real boost.
The weight loss and no appetite was something my Cardio Rehab chums were baffled about also, so this seems quite fine under the circumstances and I certainly saw massive improvements with these folks after the 12 weeks rehab.
Poor you on the blinking rat poison as well as the other medications....no wonder you have no appetite!
I really am pleased to hear you are finally having the attention and treatment you deserve. Now I too can sleep at night instead of worrying about you.
Please send Jack and my good wishes to your good lady Wife also Frankie.
Look forward to hearing the next stage in your recovery.

Catching up with posts Frankie and yes, best wishes go to you and yours.
Aside all the challenges you are going through, it never fails to amaze me how resilient the human body can be. It sounds like yours has taken a pounding through all this.
I bet your laugh is just as loud and infectious though
