Re: Life on the allotment !
Back to work today after one day on the allotment finding and repairing fence damage in the recent gales - luckily not as bad as others due to use of Met posts as securing attachments to my fence posts.
Two repaired panels had damage, one of which will be a full replacement. Sheds secure, no glass out of greenhouse, no roof felt damage, everything dry under proper covers.
Glad I took time before Xmas to batten down properly - saved me loads of work after seeing other local plots' damage.
Happy gardening to all who have gardens or allotments on here !!

Still raining, still totally sodden.
A source at "Witch" gardening advised me that the best thing I can do is put down manure and just leave it for the time being.

Re: Life on the allotment !
All your allotments must be in a terrible bad way with all the water you have had to endure.
I hope you can manage to salvage something.

Fence and gate repairs today - 1st decent weather day this year when I've been free to work on the plots properly.
Fruit trees budding well on the orchard plot.
New raised beds to start on next week!

Re: Life on the allotment !
Spent a couple of hours just turning over part of the plot. Ache like mad now but it was a beautiful day, the first of the year when I have been able to get down to the plot. The soil is still very claggy though and still containing lots of moisture.
Re: Life on the allotment !
Hello all!
I've managed to get out a couple of times this week and pot up some rhubarb I've grown from seed into bigger pots. I did plant some of the plants out into the ground last year and that's looking really good. The stuff in pots is tiny by comparison though.
I am looking forward to some more of this sunshine we were treated to and less of the freezing cold haze that crept back today.

Back from the sunshine.
My first earlies are chitted nicely so should have been planted but sun, sand and beer or planting spuds. Hard choice.
