App to prevent phone use while driving?

Just how useful would this be?
Wouldn't a 'good' driver not need it?
Does it affect passenger phones too? The only way I can see it automatically operating is by the GPS feature detecting vehicle speed, which would also affect any passenger?
Still, it's a discussion point. I don't have a 'smart' phone, so not a concern personally.

Re: App to prevent phone use while driving?
Surely not gps berni or you'd be stuck on trains or buses too?
In my opinion you shouldn't need an app to make adults take responsibility for their actions. I can't access the website for the app from work but to me it comes down to individual behaviour.

I'm of the same mind as both of you. Can't think why it would appeal to drivers who don't conform anyway!
Agree also with public transport problem.

I just can't think of any other way the phone would know you're moving at vehicular speed, let along driving?

I've got an easier solution, put your phone on silent and put it in the back where you cannot reach it

Ha ha ha, I dunno, cheeky kids these days hey Berni!
I agree with you though Berni that I don't know how it would know you're driving? Personally I have an aftermarket stereo which utilises Bluetooth as a handsfree kit. I know that some people are of the opinion that a conversation is distracting regardless of it being handsfree, but I am legally compliant and I'm confident I give the road a high level of attention even during phone calls. I keep the calls as brief as possible and the stereo even knows when I have a text message and can be set up to read them out to me!
So when the whole world is safe..............what are we going to do then?

Re: App to prevent phone use while driving?
It can only know you are driving if you have the GPS on. It will however still allow you to use the maps and music on your phone so it is not completely safe.
If you turn off your gps (location services) on your phone it cannot or will not work.
Over and above this if you have the app and you leave it on whilst on the bus, train or in a car as a passenger it will still stop you from using the phone which in my eyes is not what it was designed for.
The people who continually use their phone whilst driving would not download this app let alone turn it on so in my eyes it is a white elephant.
Responsible people do not use their phones when driving.
Like Keith when I am in the UK I have my phone enabled through my stereo and only answer if the road conditions dictate I can. I do not have texts read to me or emails or anything else.
I think the person who made the app had their heart in the right place when they thought up the idea but didnt really think through the practicalities.

Android I think, although in my eyes it doesnt matter who makes it is not the answer to driving using this equipment.

I was just thinking that it would have cost someone a few quid to get it to the point of being available to use if it was ios.
