I have used AVG for years but the latest version - 2011 free edition seemed to take over the computer at start up and almost stopped everything else till it updated itself.
I have now switched to Avast and found it much less intrusive and allows the computer to start up and run much faster. The initial instalation scan also found and fixed more errors than AVG ever did.
Just my opinion but worth a try Keith

Re: AVG 2011 free version
Hi All,
Like ddlh, I used to use AVG, and would swear by it.....
but
it seemed t become very memory / cpu intensive, so ended up swapping to Avast, which was far better on resources.
since then I've resurrected an old winXP machine (to run my expense manager), and loaded avast on this with no problem, even though it runs via an old plug in usb wireless connector.
Just a couple of thoughts...
Regards
Adrian
