Referral NGC1 Passed GC2 & GC3 Bit gutted..

Post by Corndog »

Hi,

New on here, although viewed often as guest.

I took an intense course in March - 5 day course, exam on 6th day for NGC1 and the same format for GC2. Then did the practical in a week or two.

I thought it would be close on NGC1 as i stalled on a question, how it was worded and given the exam conditions and nerves i wasn't that surprised.

I thought I'd done pretty well on the GC2 and Practical but only achieved 48 and 63 respectively???

Not sure what i'm going to do yet, though my course provider will let me take the course again free, i just have to pay NEBOSH for the exam.....

Is there anywhere we can view model answers to NGC1 to ascertain what a perfect answer looks like? Given the intense nature of the course and the amount of people, its impossible to give one-to-one support.

Good morning Corndog,

First of all congratulations on passing 2 and 3 first time clapclap clapclap No mean feat at all.
NGC1 is a beast of a paper and a lot of people struggle. There are lots of downloads in the download section here that will help - mindmaps, etc.
Look on the Nebosh website for past papers.
All i can suggest is hammer past exam papers, and when the time for exam comes, read the question, read it again, start answering and read it again to make sure you are answering the question that they are asking. A lot of people answer a question that they think they have read only to answer something totally different. Start off with a question that you can comfortably answer, to gain confidence and then the next, complete to the end.
Nebosh are looking for key words but you need to answer as per the command words. So List, Identify, Describe, outline, etc. Look at previous questions that you've already answered to jog your memory on a current question. You'll be surprised how many times that can spring you into a flurry of writing more. Use your time well. Have a watch next to you and break up the questions into minutes per question and stick to this. You can always go back if you have time later.

Don't give up.

Good luck next time you sit.

Thanks Safetysmurf I'll take a look at the downloads and also work hard on those command words... Think that's key!

Thanks again for the advice!

Morning and a very warm welcome to you corndog.

congrats from me also on your passes. .salut

Great advice from our smurfyman. ./thumbsup..

As well as Smurfs suggestions, I would also point you in the direction of a post with "everything you need to pass" that can be printed easily. http://www.healthandsafetytips.co.uk/fo ... f=2&t=6133

I would also mention that when you refer to specific Regulations/Legislation, you make sure that the first time of mention, you have to be accurate. So many people only put abbreviations, or a few words of the Regulations, when it is necessary to put the whole reference followed by brackets, thereafter they can be referred using only the brackets if that makes sense.......

Example:

Wrong: fire regulations 2005
Correct: The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRFSO)

Once used written in full as above, you can then use only the (RRFSO), saving precious time.

Here are Examiners Reports from the NEBOSH site. http://www.nebosh.org.uk/fileupload/upl ... 111355.pdf

Have a look at Angela Cluley's flash cards in this link. https://www.healthandsafetytips.co.uk/d ... h-specific

Good luck. You will skoosh it next time. .salut
