We were told (last year) by our tutor that 'sketch' was no longer used in the question.

We were also told that a sketch could still be used in the answer - such as for HSG 65, or a diagram of a typical LEV - as long as it was clearly and well labelled.

Not sure if that is official though ?

Agree that using a sketch can help; used one on my answer on local exhaust ventilation a few years ago.

NEBOSH will not ask for sketch as an action verb any more. List was used recently but is not in the new guidance.

I've had a look through the assignments that my local college use for their online self-study version of the NEBOSH Gen. Cert which is what I'm studying and the questions in the assignments set by the college (to let them assess how much you're picking up before they allow you to apply to sit the exam) seem to be heavily weighted towards "Outline". They have 9 assignments to cover the full syllabus and I'd say 80-90% are "Outline".

Is that perhaps because students struggle most with the concept of "Outline" or is it because that is the kind of question NEBOSH is likely to set in the exam?

You are only a millimetre or a millisecond away from the next incident.

Wendolene, I had the majority of my paper on Outline questions, but that was a number of years ago.

Not sure why this is the case with your college. Perhaps, being a sort of middle of the road type question it is one that will provide them with your overall knowledge so far. Not too time consuming for either you or them, so more able to move to the next area in your study without getting bogged down. :dontknow: I know my Provider also gave us Outline questions more than any of the others.

Outline is the one action verb NEBOSH say people have most trouble with. They have simplified it in the new guidance but it would appear some providers are still sending students down the old route.
If you read the guidance it does make it quite plain and simple.
