Hi Stephen

"Evidence or speculation?"

Risk is fairly small but still there.

To address some of the issues mentioned, you may wish to ask the owners who want to bring their dogs in to have achieved minimum Bronze level in the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme.

A wouldnt trust the BBC as far as I could throw them. They've proven themselves completely dishonest in their reporting time and time again.

As for the governments page - I refer you back to what the cdc said. There is no evidence. The government priority is Butt covering, not passing on accurate information.

This is from a report by Public Health England.

Other sources
Non-human sources (for example, infected companion animals) – cats and dogs have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in
households with infected humans. It would not be possible to differentiate between the likely exposure of a companion ferret in
such a household to the other infected companion animals or to an infected human (or contaminated environment). Nevertheless,
evidence suggests dogs are unlikely to become infectious, while cats have only limited transmission potential under experimental
conditions.

This is from the American Vetinary Medical Associattion

Under natural conditions—meaning, when the virus is transmitted via close contact with a COVID-19-positive person—the primary domestic animals that have been diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 are dogs and cats. It should be noted that these species are not easily infected under natural conditions, and there is no evidence that infected cats or dogs spread the virus to other animals or to people.

From the National Academy of Sciences
These studies confirm that cats are susceptible to productive SARS-CoV-2 infection, but are unlikely to develop clinical disease. Further, we document that cats developed a robust neutralizing antibody response that prevented reinfection following a second viral challenge. Conversely, we found that dogs do not shed virus following infection but do seroconvert and mount an antiviral neutralizing antibody response. There is currently no evidence that cats or dogs play a significant role in human infection;

This is somethings that has bugged the hell out of me throughout this pandemic. Taking the word of the media or government without looking in to the evidence that supports their claims. Be it the FOUR different distances in social distancing to the need to wear masks AND social distance, to stuff like this. They never have the evidence to back up the advice they are giving.

All that said, unfortunately, if the government advises it and you dont do it, you leave yourself open... complete farce.

Not playing a 'significant role' certainly doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.

Having said that, I wouldn't spend too much time on this - staff should be being encouraged to keep their dogs apart, and that would probably do it.
We often think that when we have completed our study of one we know all about two, because 'two' is 'one and one.' We forget that we still have to make a study of 'and.'

This one came back to bite us on the bum

a disgruntled employee reported it to the environmental health, I am on holiday at the end of today but have to supply all the evidence to environmental health of policies and risk assessments etc.

we ended the policy in April
