In particular I am looking for advise on developing a SHEQ / OH&S strategy and action plan – this is an area that my current company did not embrace and don't really do in a structured way but is part of my new role and an area I wish to develop as I take on my new job.

Treat your board of director to implement ISO 45001 standard. I think that is the best simple

Start by finding out where you are and where you would like / need to be. Conduct a gap analysis - could be against 45001. Look at the highest HSE risks for your company and think about the road to get where you envisage the company in the future. Write a plan that is ambitious but achievable and have many mile stones / small wins to keep you focused. Involve Senior management from the beginning as you will need financial support. Also involve the workers as they will play a crucial part in the plan. have long term and short term goals. cost your plan too. just some thoughts...
