Changes to NEBOSH certificate courses

Just a quick heads up for all those who will be looking to sit or are currently studying for a Nebosh Certificate.
NEBOSH yesterday released a statement that all future exams will now be open book and rather than the traditional exam paper, the NGC1 assessment will now be your written response to a specific scenario given to you. You will be given the scenario and be required to submit your response within a 24 hour period. This will then be followed up with an interview, generally through video conference, asking you detailed questions about your submission. The submission will then be graded. GC2 remains the current risk assessment submission. This change will remove the requirement to attend an examination centre to complete any exams.
I have further info if anyone wants to know more.
This has come out of the blue and NEBOSH tell us they will give us further details over the next couple of weeks.

Oh how I wish I had been able to do it this way instead of the terrifying exams in the short time allowed and replying in the NEBOSH speak!

I suppose it is the way forward and with NCRQ being their up and coming rivals, NEBOSH had to think differently. This Pandemic has gone in NEBOSH's favour methinks.

I actually get some peoples frustration within the industry by NEBOSH going down this route.

For me with the level of innovative ideas and a market saturated by online content (NVQ 5, NCQR etc) the need to sit exams are slightly outdated now.

especially people who know the content but cant relay it through form of writing in 2 hours exam situation or even a hand writing issue for some. How many people hand write anything these days.

a good move for NEBOSH.

When I first joined the Royal Air Force as an engineer many decades ago, part of the qualification criteria for promotion included having passed Trade specific exams at the appropriate level.
The answers required in the Trade exams were as much related to 'where would you find the information you need', as to actually knowing it immediately.
Some things you need to know for immediate recollection, others you need to know where to find them. It has to be a balance.

An 'Open Book Exam' with just one book is not an appropriate test of either.

So I hope some questions will not have the answer spelt out in the book, because otherwise it's just testing the ability to read and write.

Its not a question and answer exam. It's is a scenario. So you can't just look up answers, you have to have an understanding of what you are looking for in the first place and then demonstrate you know how to put that in to a practical solution.

Wasn't 3 units for the NGC?
NGC1+NG2 + Risk Assessment?

I'm due to re-sit the NGC1 on Dec 02. The last time I sat this was the 2 hour exam, its now been changed to an open book exam which is open for 24Hrs. Does anybody have any useful resource material which could help me to prepare?
