Guardian Article "Why do so many US workers fall to their deaths?"

Post by quality_somerset »

Morning everyone

Whilst on my tea break I saw an article in the guardian that I think will be of interest to H&S people:

https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... hs-falling

The article led me to some youtube videos of tower climbers  As someone who is not great with heights I won't be doing that again......

Kind regards

QS

Ah - articles like this are so sad- all these deaths are preventable. Thoughts to all the families and friends always.

i always take for granted how lucky i am that my workplace and the Chief Executive who runs the company are so passionate about Health & Safety.

The rules in the USA are abysmal by our standards, with paltry fines hardly worth giving out.
OSHA is a Federal agency but most regulation is State enforced, by 'state' OSHAs or other organisations. Federal OSHA 'audits/investigates' State organisations.

Here's some photos I took when I was living out in the USA in 2010, of scaffold and the access ladders, on the construction of a shopping mall complex.

I doubt their standards have improved in the past 10 years.
You wouldn't get me climbing an exterior, vertical ladder like that, most likely without a harness clipped on.
