CPD Evidence

I need to consider what I can use in regards to evidence of CPD. Actively pursuing CPD and also recording activities that could contribute to this are something I need to improve at. Partly why I haven't been as good as I should is that I have a recent history for working for companies that do not value CPD. The reason I need to demonstrate it now is that my current employer is accredited by a body that requires us to show evidence that the H&S provision has been carrying out CPD. My current employer are encouraging me to take part in CPD and also happy to provide time and funding for me to pursue this.

I am pulling together presentations and training sessions I have done and am now looking for other evidence. I have a few training courses I can submit also.

I will be looking in the near future to reinstate my iosh membership and use their CPD framework for the future but this won't help me now unfortunately.

I would like to use activity on this forum (I realise this hasn't been as active over the last few months!) and was wondering how I would present this?

Have you been to any local safety group meetings or IOSH meetings? They count towards CPD.
You can use the fact that you are a moderator and give input into the site as CPD as well.

I haven't been to meetings. I've done a couple of training courses with my new employer so they'll go down. I have to hold my hand up and say it's an area I need to improve on. Would maintaining legal registers count? Just thinking that it is a method of keeping up to date?

You present it as having been asked by Jack to become a Moderator owing to your previous helpful replies to our members. You also add the length of time you have been and still are, a Moderator both in our FB page, Group page, our forums, any Downloads you have contributed, offline help to members etc etc.

Our site is well known and respected, so I see no problem in presenting it as a very varied CPD assistance.

Can I just add a bit to my last reply for other members who have contributed to this unique site over the years.

You too can add HSfB into your CPD. You are just as unique as this site.

Thanks Alexis, am I accurate in saying this is the largest independent H&S forum on the planet? (I already know it's the best!)

A lot of people worry about IOSH CPD, but at the moment (and I say that only because of the membership review that is currently taking place) it's not as onerous as many think.
Reading magazine articles/topics from IOSH magazine and others, reading books on safety subjects, listening/watching to Webinars from organisations like Barbour/SHP 3M etc are all relevant if they maintain/increase knowledge and 'develop' you as a practitioner.

If you undertake something and perhaps at the end of listening to a 60 minute webinar you think 'Damn, I didn't learn anything new there' it's still recordable as 'maintaining' your knowledge. ;)

To be perfectly frank, as a lot of CPD is the Reflective Statement, it's more to do with how eloquent you 'reflect' than anything else, your ability to explain (waffle on) about how you learnt something.
For example, let's say you had a problem at work that you'd not come across before and knew nothing about.

If you log it as CPD but you write something like this....
'New problem at work, found the answer online, sorted it in a couple of hours' it doesn't sound exciting and isn't really going to cut it as CPD.

But use a lot more words..... "New problem at work today about XXX which was somewhat outside my current experience. Carried out some extensive research on the subject and discovered that this is not a new problem in our industry, but it's not seen as a significant issue due to being easily controlled by doing A, B and C. I'm now much happier about it and can ensure we have it covered in our H&S Policy and can brief it out to the staff. I was please that I managed to find a cost effective solution and I will now explore if there are any read-across to other aspects of the business"
it now becomes a relevant CPD entry.
