Morning all,
Prepping for an interview next week and wanted to make sure I’d converted all the bases.
I am trying to consider all specific safety issues in a distribution centre.
So far I’ve come up with:
Manual handling
Forklift safety, training, inspections, etc
Racking, inspections, Loading/unloading
Vehicle/people interaction
Control of vehicle movement
I’m sure I’ve missed something.
Any pointers much appreciated
Many thanks
Glen

It may not go down too well at an interview, but be aware of the Health of H&S. Welfare facilities, restrooms, etc.

Oh the list you could make that might also include safety culture, near-miss and I’d put communication high on the list.
But hey, you’ve got to an interview because they like what they have read, now’s the 5ime to be yourself and shine. Good luck in your new adventure

Hope the interview went well, think most of the main areas were covered above. People are generally still very complacent around forklifts. With that said, it’s hard to find someone who works alongside forklifts that doesn’t know of a significant accident that involved a colleague or someone they know. Lack of awareness and training is definitely part of it, though pedestrian segregation and transport management needs to be given higher priority when planning/revising layout. If you are looking after an area with forklift operations, here's a resource that might be useful for you to share. I interviewed Lisa Ramos on my podcast, Lisa was the injured party in a serious forklift accident which resulted in the amputation of her leg. Brings the reality of forklift safety into sharp focus, and the resulting impacts - https://safeti.com/podcast/every-cloud- ... t-accident. Thanks!

Re: Distribution centre safety?
Hi Richie,
Interview did go well. I didn't get the job but I do know I got down to final 3 from 200+, was the right fit culturally for the company but not quite up to scratch technically. Really pleased with it and maybe a silver lining that I did not get it given what I found out about the travel and working requirements during the interview.
I've just started listening to the Safeti podcast so i'll go and hunt out that episode
Thanks
Glen
