Experience or Qualification?

Post by Zocarter101 »

Hi,
I have the opportunity to go to university and do a master in H&S or work for the HSE- my question is within the next 5 years I want to work abroad and I am wondering which of these would be better recognised by companies external from the UK?

Any advice is appreciated :)

Hi
Welcome to the Forums.
Personal opinion....., experience as a Regulator would probably be seen as being more use than having been studying for a Masters.

The only caveat to that being where abroad you're thinking of....

I'm sure others will have an opinion, including some who are currently abroad.

Welcome to the forums

Some companies from abroad require a degree to enable your visa to work in their country, although some dont.

Regulatory body experience is a great job but maybe only relevant to some countries, for instance I am currently in Saudi and if you so much as mention UK HSE they will state, doesnt apply.

The choice will be totally personal and I can see the benefits from both sides.

For me a blend of experience and qualifications is usually best, is there no way you can still work for the HSE and do learning via distance/part-time learning?
