Brett Day: CHESS SLEEP OUT – A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS!

Post by Brett Day SP »

This Friday (30 November) I’ll be sleeping ‘rough’ in the grounds of Chelmsford Cathedral for my local homeless charity CHESS .
Last year I managed to raise £250, I’m hoping to beat that this year.

My donation page is at: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/brettday2

And here is CHESS: https://www.chesshomeless.org/

@chesshomeless

#chesssleepout

#homelessness

Thanks

Best Regards

Brett

The sleep out went well, it was warmer than last year the temperature got down to 6/7c rather than the -2c of last year.

Being in the town centre we had the usual sound and goings on from the local pubs, clubs and drunks fortunately we had a group of volunteers walking round looking out for the sleepers, those who hadn't done this before did find it a little a little un-nerving.

There was a little levity at around two when the pubs had finished and we started to hear the less than dulcet sounds of the cathedral organist practicing, ‘Hall of the mountain king’ being the most sedate! We did wonder when he was going to break into ‘Phantom of the opera’, before our watchers asked him to stop.

In all seriousness, that little bit of uneasiness did give us an idea of what it could be like to have to sleep rough, fortunately for us we woke up at seven, just before it started to lash down with rain.

Thanks for the donations, my page is still open for anyone else who wants to contribute.
