All,
Quick question I hope, can anyone advise?
Under 2015-
can a company be a principle design and principle contactor.
and can the PD responsibilities be changed during a project from PD to the PC?
Thanks

Re: CDM 2015 - can you be principle designer and principle contractor?
The requirement under the regs is if there is more than one contractor, a separate dutyholder should be appointed to co-ordinate the design and construction phases of a project. The Regs do not say who that should be, only that the appointment must be in writing, and should have the necessary skills experience, competency and training (or words to that effect) to carry out the appointment.
So a design and build contractor could be appointed as both PD & PC. Be careful though you can only have one Principle Designer or COntractor on each project, someone must take overall responsibility for all other designers and contractors.
The appointment could change during a project and this would need to be documented and a thorough handover. The PD can also handover the role to the PC if their appointment ends before the construction phase has ended, The regulations have a set of criteria that has to be met, i.e what risks are designed in/out amongst others.
A link to the regs is below:

Hope this helps

It is better to be careful 100 times than to get killed once.
