AED maintenance

We got a brand new AED three years ago and thankfully it's never had to be used in anger as yet. It's subject to regular visual checks in terms of pads, batteries and response kit (mask, razor, towels, gloves). It's also tested monthly using the self-test feature and comes back all clear.

I've never heard of any, but has anyone any knowledge of whether there's a need for any external maintenance or inspection of an AED, like even from a best practice point of view or just for reassurance? Similar to fire extinguishers, etc.

I've just done a full service on ours, literally this week.

I replaced all 10 batteries and replaced the pads.

That's about as much as can be done as far as I know, the batteries were all showing a charge but replaced with the pads after 5 years, the gel starts to dry up apparently.

More than that and I would be replacing it.

Yeah I keep an eye on all of that, and it's still got 4 years left on warranty.

I was just wondering if there's anything else done e.g. should it be externally certified by a competent person such as medical technologists?

Good Morning ./thumbsup..

While not knowing your local arrangements, suggest sign up to manufacturer's website for any updates (software) and also to the MHRA for advisories - e.g: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/faul ... connection

Thanks WB, have signed up for those as well. Think we're doing everything we can in that case.

You say regular visual checks, how often?
