Interested in piloting a new health & safety qualification?

Post by NCRQ »

Hi all,

A new suite of applied health and safety qualifications has been developed, as an alternative to NEBOSH. These have been designed by some of the largest employers in the UK (such as the BBC, Royal Mail, and Siemens plc), a number of senior HSE inspectors and experts, barristers, and academics. The qualifications include a Level 6 Certificate in Applied Health and Safety, a Level 6 Certificate in Personal Injury Liability, and a Level 6 Diploma in Applied Health and Safety. They are progressive, so that completion of each Certificate level qualification counts towards the full Diploma.

The qualifications will be delivered by distance learning - where students learn by working through a series of real life case studies. There is an emphasis on the skills required to be an effective safety practitioner, rather than learning to recite vast amounts of information. The qualifications will be assessed by a number of assignments, rather than exams, so as to reflect the real working environment.

The first qualification - the Level 6 Certificate in Applied Health and Safety - is due to be released in May. The subsequent qualifications will be released later in the year.

We are looking for a number of people who would be interested in undertaking these qualifications as part of a pilot group. The qualifications will be provided completely free of charge, in exchange for providing us with regular feedback on the course, and enabling us to iron out any teething problems. Whilst all of the resources have been developed, there may be more of a delay in receiving the final marks from your assessments as we undertake stringent quality control of our assessment process, and other things may be a little rough around the edges.

We are looking for up to ten people from a range of backgrounds and previous academic achievement who:

a) Are interested and motivated to undertake a higher level qualification in health and safety
b) Have the time to commit to the distance learning course, and will be able to make good progress in a timely manner
c) Will be prepared to provide us with regular and honest feedback, and are happy to perhaps participate in some marketing (such as quotes / photos / videos) in due course

An outline specification is available here: http://www.ncrq.org.uk/documents/NCRQ_s ... h_2015.pdf

If you are interested, please let us know by sending a private message with your name, current job role / health and safety responsibilities, any previous health and safety qualifications, and your highest level qualification (in any subject).

We will be looking for the pilot group to commence studies from 1 May.

***UPDATE: All of the places for this pilot have now been allocated. Thank you to everybody who contacted us.***

Many thanks,

Iain

I don't currently have the spare time to undertake the trial, but I will be keeping as close an eye as possible to the outcome of this course and subsequent follow on courses. They certainly sound interesting. Good luck.
