whats your opinion ?

Post by Zan »

What’s your opinion?

Somebody at work during the lunch break hit their head on a cabinet door in the canteen area.
Is this a recordable minor accident or not? Even during the break time?
The person was fine.

Thanks

For us we record everything so yes the person is at work

They may not be in their 'working hours' but it has occurred on your premises, so definitely something for your Accident Recording process, be it a book or database. .salut

Not a "work activity" and presuming that there was no fault with the locker, then don't see it as work related.
Really depends on what your H&S system says about recording adverse events, you will set a precedent if you record it.

I would record it and investigate it as to ascertain there was nothing wrong with the cabinet that could have contributed to the incident. I would do this regardless of being a work activity or not. At the end of the day it happen in your premises and you might have to prove at a later date that in fact there was nothing wrong.

Record and investigate/review, could be the placement of the cabinet and an accident waiting to happen again.

Record but please do not waste your time investigating it.

I would suggest that 99% of us have banged our head on cupboard doors at some point, I have and once at work. It is not the positioning of the cupboard, it is the operator not closing the door!

Thanks Guys,

For all your valuable contribution.

I have recorded the accident and found nothing wrong with the cupboard door or it's position.

I'm glad you've resolved it.

For future readers of this topic, I refer you over to this other topic about Accident Books.... http://www.hsfb.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... f6#p300571" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I certainly have no inclination to try and decipher legislation from 1979 with the plethora of amendments, changes, deletions and corrections that have been made in the subsequent 35 years, but I'd forget all about 'work related', 'being on lunch break', etc.
Recording accidents in the workplace is a Social Security legislation requirement, originally relating to Industrial Injuries Benefit payment, or the potential for such, but somewhere in the past 35 years the accident book is now used in areas that are not covered by that benefit or it's successors, anywhere there is a FAK there's an Accident Book.

So essentially put it in the book and get on with life after a few minutes... .salut
