Re: Now questioning my ability to carry out FRA

Like you’ve said, I’d look at it as a great opportunity to learn and recognise what can be done. On reflection, had you checked the points found seen by the FB, did you miss it or think it was okay? Perhaps the sequence and routine of how the FRA was done could be tweaked. Had it been altered betwee...

Re: Training question

Nice question. I did a course a few years ago. Google can be scary. I just did a google on ab wheel training to see two companies extracts one of which boldy described it included abrasive wheel regs’70 and the other boldly saying PUWER has totally replaced the same regs! With carts supposedly being...

Re: To register or not to register - That is the question ;)

Interesting read and how the future may become. The key conflict I see is the competence procedure. If we accept the OP comment of client’s confidential nature of the FRAs is likely to be endemic in large organisations, and that only large organisations will be involved in the “higher risk” building...

Re: New Job role offer advice

Will you decide on your gut feeling or a bit more! Have you tried a SWOT (Strengths/ weakness / check Opportunities / Threats) to the 2 questions 'Should I join X Manufacturing company" followed by "Should I join Y Steel company" Strengths: integral organisational support, seems good ...

Re: Risk Assessments

Bit confused. Were you offered the position and then have it withdrawn, or did you get told about it and apply!
The 1st could be nepotism and the latter could be in the detail why they chose someone else.
Not sure I can see how an inspection/ audit by 3rd party would affect your selection!

Re: Training for Trustees

Just looking at the IOSH SfEaD courses they are a one day session, so cut out the intro, closure and lunch means about 4-5hrs training tops which in turn os probably close to 2-3hrs (poss 4) online. Would online be too much time for the trustees or is the balance that they get a recognised certifica...

Re: Question on training and pay

In these strange times, can we assume that the colleague is not furloughed but is now full time at the office / place of work? I'll take the easy answer on the limited info, that if the person is on furlough then training can be expected to be done at home. AFAIR, the wording is along the lines of n...

Re: Review of The Highway Code to improve road safety for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders

On first read, some of the wording could have a massive impact, mainly on drivers, in terms of a more direct association or link to criminal offences; especially the careless driving type offence. With words like “responsibility” and a quick thesaurus check comes,up with liability, guilt, burden and...

Re: Pesticide Spraying

Bit late to respond. My initial thought was the need to have completed a hand held sprayer course. The HSE site is a little vague, but have you had a look at this. https://www.hse.gov.uk/pesticides/resources/R/Recognised_certificates.pdf The OPs circumstances may fall into that area where legislatio...

Re: FRA 'tools'

Messy, I’ve used iauditor and some others.with good effect. But, like you, the ability to scribble or make notes is the constant backup for where the apps don’t cover the scenario. I suppose the combination of using templates for the expected or norm gives consistency and time saving as well as pape...

Re: FRA 'tools'

If you are looking for a paperless method, my experience has been very good with iAuditor- but I emphasis I didn’t set it up, although in hindsight, it seems more tedious and planned than it is difficult. As an alternative, lots of hauliers use a paperless app for vehicle checks that range from kick...
